THE NEPHILIM AND THE ANUNNAKI: A NEW INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLICAL AND SUMERIAN RECORDS

In the Biblical account of the Great Deluge, the Hebrew God Yahweh expressed his indignation that the 'the Sons of God' were sleeping with the 'daughters of men'. The Bible states that "the Nephilim were in the Earth in those days, and also afterwards, when the Sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and had children by them".

What is the meaning of this mysterious legend? The Bible provides very few clues, but much can be learned from worldwide legends concerning 'the gods' who came down from Heaven to Earth. In this lecture, Alan F. Alford will explain why he is convinced that the legends of the ancient Near East are based on the imagined disintegration of at least two planets in
the heavens, which seeded the Earth with their falling meteorites.

The main focus of the lecture will be on the religion of ancient Egypt, beginning with the meteorite cult of Heliopolis. Alford will argue that ancient Egyptian religion was essentially an 'exploded planet cult', with the Sun and stars acting only as visible symbols for an invisible, ex-planetary 'God'. The rising and setting of the Sun and the stars were thus symbols for the imagined death and rebirth of a planet. The same idea lies behind the legend of the Phoenix-bird, which threw itself down from Heaven into the Earth (the 'Island of Fire'), and was then reborn from its own ashes.

Several legends of the Sumerian and Babylonian gods will be cited to demonstrate the broad conceptual similarity between the two primary religions of the ancient Near East. If time allows, reference will also be made to ancient Greek mythology.

Finally, the pieces of the puzzle will be assembled to construct a startling new hypothesis for the identity of the Nephilim, the Sons of God, and the Hebrew 'God' himself.
