C.I.S. - The Centre of Italian for Foreigners - Research, Training and Teaching, is the result of twenty-five years' experience in providing Italian Courses for Foreigners. Among its various teaching activities the Centre offers courses of Italian Language and Literature for Foreigners according to the learner's initial level of competence. The courses organized by the Centre are either intensive (4, 3 or 2 weeks) or non-intensive (15 weeks). The Centre also develops and organizes international training and exchange programmes.
As part of its programme the Centre organizes training courses and seminars as well as refresher courses aimed at teachers and which concern the teaching of Italian as a second language. It also offers seminars for teachers of mixed native language classes in both state and private schools and institutes of all kinds and at all levels.
As part of its research and consultancy activities the Centre collaborates with university research projects dealing with Italian as a second language. These include: "Linguistics, language acquisition, theory and methodology" and "Foreign language immigration in Italy".
Since the year 2003 the Centre has produced, in collaboration with the publisher Guerra (Perugia), the Proceedings of the annual Convention- Seminar held by the Centre, as well as materials for the refresher courses for teachers of Italian as a second language.
