The Software for Experimental Robotics Laboratory (SERL) at University of Bergamo carries on activities that promote the cross-fertilization of research directions typical of the Robotics and Automation area and of the Software Engineering area.
As robotics systems are becoming more complex, integrated, and available as everyday consumer product, there is the need to engineering the software development process in order to guarantee not only performance but foremost robustness, safety, reusability and easy maintenance.
The SERL laboratory addresses these issues from three points of view:
The research activities of the SERL laboratory focus on the definition and experimentation of Software Engineering techniques and methodologies that support the faster development of Robotic software systems that are reusable in different operational scenarios, stable against hardware variability, flexible enough to accommodate the requirements of a continuously evolving application field, and easy to understand and to maintain.
The SERL laboratory participates in the formation of engineers of the Computer Science area by means of lectures and hands-on experiences related to robot programming, robot simulation, micro-controller network protocols design, computer vision, mechatronics, and real-time systems.
The SERL laboratory provides services in supporting robotic and automation industry such as preliminary studies of new technologies or systems, design of prototype applications, and development of software intensive systems.
