Walled
Towns is a cooperative project whose principal aims are to provide
a cultural and historical analysis of fortified works. It involves
seven European cities, each representing a specific case study:
Bad Radkersburg (Austria); Bergamo (Italy); Chania (Greece); Civitella
del Tronto (Italy); Eger (Hungary); Segovia (Spain); Vianne (France).
Our gathering of historical and iconographic data has been focused
on an interdisciplinary approach enabling the exploration of various
topics and fields of interest: from landscape information to architectural
features, to tourist resources. Our intention is to present a significant
range of examples testifying to the peculiarities of the chosen
domain of investigation. Indeed, we consider the results of our
research as a starting point for an international cooperative effort
to study and discuss walled towns. For this reason we are establishing
an Internet site in order to exchange ideas, research results and
suggestions. |
