Give information on turbomachinery fluid dynamics, applicable measurement techniques and fluid machinery and energy conversion systems performance test procedures. At the end of the course the student will be able to design and carry out experiments of high complexity.
1. Measurement theory (measurement chain, errors, accuracy, uncertainty, static and dynamic characteristics). 2. Basis of data processing. 3. Pressure measurement (static, total and dynamic pressure probes, transducers). 4. Temperature measurement (thermocouples, thermal resistance). 5. Massflow measurements. 6. Power plants and fluid machinery performance test procedures. 7. Test rigs and wind tunnels. 8. Fluiddynamic review: theory of wing sections, boundary layer. 9. Introduction to Turbomachinery fluiddynamics: secondary flows, losses and cooling behavior. 10. Flow visualisation techniques and optical methods. 11. Velocity Measurements (aerodynaic probes, hot wire anemometry, LDV, PIV). 12. Temperature and heat transfer coefficient measurement (thermocromic liquid crystal, cold wire, IR thermocamera).

Lectures (about 36 hours) and Lab sessions (about 20 hours) are given in English.
The oral exam is submitted to the presentation of reports concerning the Lab activities. The report must be provided at least one week before the date of the exam. The date of the oral exam can be defined by sending an email.
