Prerequisites

Knowledge of German Language equal to level B2+(for LM I) or C1 (for LM II).

Educational goals

Knowledge of the main characteristics of the evolutionary stages of German with particular reference to the protomodern and modern period with some insights into historical semantics. At the end of the course students are able to analyse the literary texts taken into consideration, identifying the respective linguistic repertoires and making comparisons with the respective translations.
At the end of the course, students will also have improved their competences in the four communicative skills foreseen by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR), in particular C1(+) skills for LMI and C1+ (writing, speaking), and C2 skills (listening and written comprehension) for LM II.

Course content

1 sub-period: Periodisation, diatopic variation and standardisation, language contact, introduction to historical semantics
2 sub-period: Specific topics of historical semantics.
Text analysis will also take into account the implications of the topics discussed during the course for translation.
The contents of the AAL level C1 (German language LM I) and C1+/C2 (German language LM II) are indicated analytically on the website of the Language Competence Centre of the University in the German section.

The activities of the 2nd sub-period, in the form of seminars are subdivided into LLEP 1 and LLEP 2 and foresee active participation of the students, possibly also through short oral presentations. For informations on language training activities (AAL) pls. have a look at the website of the “Centro Competenza Lingue”, in the German language section.

Assessment and Evaluation

1. disciplinary knowledge (related to the official course and seminars): Oral exam in German. Students will have to answer questions on the topics of the course starting from the texts in the program. Any individual or group work requested during the course contributes to the final evaluation. Written tests of linguistic abilities (s. point 2) have to be successfully concluded.
2. Communicative skills (written tests of linguistic abilities): Lingua Tedesca LM I: Writing and translation German-Italian (= versione); Lingua Tedesca LM II: Translation of academic tests Italian-German
The final mark, expressed in thirtieths, is based on evaluation of disciplinary knowledge related to the official course and seminars, but will take into account also communicative skills of the required level (see educational goals).
Specific language training activities for communicative skills are offered by the “Centro Competenza Lingue”, in the German language section
