Chinese students may apply for admission to PhD programmes at the University of Bergamo with funding provided by the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
The selection process consists of two phases:
- Online pre-selection by the University of Bergamo (UniBG) to obtain a preliminary offer of admission;
- Selection by the CSC for the possible awarding of a scholarship.
Phase 1: Pre-selection at the University of Bergamo
Timeline
Applications for the 2026/27 academic year are open from November 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026.
Eligibility Requirements
- Citizens of the People’s Republic of China (overseas Chinese students may be eligible, subject to CSC policy);
- Students who will complete a Master’s degree by October 31, 2026;
- Excellent knowledge of English
How to Apply
To receive a pre-acceptance letter, prospective PhD candidates must apply by January 31, 2026, by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject line:“UNIBG/CSC Joint Scholarship”, specifying the PhD programme of interest and attaching the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV);
- Research proposal;
- Master’s degree certificate with English translation (if already obtained);
- Transcript of records (marksheet) with English translation;
- Copy of a valid passport with English translation;
- (Optional) Signed motivation letter;
- (Optional) Reference letter(s) – must be on university letterhead and include stamp and professor’s signature;
- English language proficiency certificate.
Phase 2: Selection and Funding by the China Scholarship Council
Final Selection and Funding
Candidates who pass the University of Bergamo’s pre-selection must apply through the China Scholarship Council (CSC), in accordance with CSC’s official procedures and deadlines.
Important: The University of Bergamo will only admit candidates who are awarded the CSC Scholarship.
