Your team

You will be part of the Information Governance Division in the Directorate General Secretariat. Our Division has around 50 staff members providing the policy framework, services and tools to ensure ECB staff can access and make full use of internal and external knowledge and information. 

The Library Services team is dedicated to meeting the evolving information needs of ECB staff. We manage the services and tools that simplify the retrieval, access and use of external information. As part of the Information Governance Division, we are also involved in developing services that strengthen the ECB’s knowledge management and collaboration capabilities.

In your role as a legal trainee in Library Services, you will join a dynamic and service-oriented team responsible for:

• providing knowledge and information management services to support the work of the ECB, including managing our first-level enquiry desk;
• helping the ECB’s experts find and retrieve information from print and online resources, including specialised databases;
• supporting the organisation of events, workshops and meetings in the Library;
• contributing to the maintenance of the Library’s areas;
• promoting tools and techniques that can help ECB staff retrieve and use information;
• helping develop and maintain tailored newsletters and alerts on topics that are relevant to the ECB.

Your role

As a legal trainee you will:

• provide information services and legal research support to the ECB’s lawyers using the Library’s print resources and online legal databases;
• develop topic-based alerts and newsletters with filtered content to meet the business and research needs of the ECB’s lawyers;
• help design business solutions that support the ECB’s lawyers;
• contribute to the development and implementation of innovative Library services and projects, such as testing new AI tools or improving Library processes and systems;
• help promote and raise awareness of available resources and services.

The traineeship offers you excellent opportunities to gain experience in providing information services in an institutional environment and to gain insight into various legal topics related to the ECB’s activities. Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 

• a bachelor’s degree or higher in law;
• an awareness of, and interest in, the role and functioning of the ECB, the European System of Central Banks, Economic and Monetary Union and European banking supervision;
• experience using document management systems and legal databases for research purposes such as EUR-Lex, InfoCuria and Westlaw;
• an advanced knowledge of the MS Office package;
• an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 

• a degree or vocational training in library and/or information sciences;
• practical experience in providing information or knowledge management services;
• a sound knowledge of EU law.

You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

Your team

You will be part of the Market-based Finance Division in the Directorate General Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability. Our Directorate General has more than 100 members of staff providing analysis and policy advice on issues relating to financial stability, non-bank financial intermediation, financial regulation and macroprudential policy. 

The Market-based Finance Division assesses and mitigates the systemic risks arising from the activities and behaviour of non-bank financial intermediaries. We also monitor financial stability risks in financial markets, coordinate the Directorate General’s market intelligence activities and improve understanding of how market-based finance interacts with monetary policy.

In your role as a trainee, you will be part of a team of approximately 20 members of staff responsible for policy-relevant analysis, model and data-infrastructure development and the coordination of the ECB’s views on the issues mentioned above.

Your role

As a trainee, you will:

• participate actively in the general work of the Division by (i) contributing to analyses for inclusion in regular internal reports and external publications such as the ECB’s Financial Stability Review, (ii) contributing – through data processing, research assistance and programming – to analytical projects focused on issues currently of interest to the Directorate General, and (iii) helping to prepare presentations and notes for stakeholders;
• maintain, update and further develop data infrastructures used for identifying systemic risk and analysing developments in the non-bank financial sector and financial markets;
• develop tools for efficient data processing, data analysis and data visualisation, while helping ensure users can access complex datasets.

The traineeship offers you excellent opportunities to familiarise yourself with key aspects of financial stability in the euro area and to develop your technical skills by participating in a variety of regularly performed tasks and projects. You will be able to develop your potential and quickly make a real difference to the work of the Division. Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 

• a bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, business administration, physics, computer science or a related discipline;
• a good understanding of and practical experience working with one or more programming languages and econometric software packages (e.g. R, Stata, MATLAB, Python or SQL);
• experience in preparing, handling and analysing datasets based on various data sources;
• a good knowledge of the MS Office package, in particular Excel and PowerPoint;
• an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 

• a master’s degree, or studies towards a master’s degree that are close to completion, in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, business administration, physics, computer science or a related discipline;
• initial experience using AI tools in research, analysis or data processing to improve efficiency and automate workflows;
• knowledge of financial markets and financial sector analysis;
• experience in using financial and economic databases (e.g. the ECB Statistical Data Portal, Bloomberg, LSEG Workspace, EPFR, Lipper, PitchBook or other commercial or public data sources).

• della robotica e dell’AI, nel sempre più attuale dibattito tra impatto e relativa affidabilità di questi sistemi, ma anche delle implicazioni nel campo dei robot e dell’impiego nelle imprese;
• del rapporto tra etica e scienza nell’annoso dibattito tra innovazione e limiti.

Non mancheranno anche talks sui temi della space economy, a cura di Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) e European Space Agency (ESA), del rapporto tra imprese e ricerca e un focus particolare sulla fisica meccanica e sulla fisica quantistica.
